We destroy the beauty of the countryside because the un-appropriated splendors of nature have no economic value. We are capable of shutting off the sun and the stars because they do not pay a dividend. — John Maynard Keynes

Amazon contest
This just in: A Gift for Sultan is one of the 1,000 general fiction titles that made it past the first winnowing of entries to the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award. This may not mean anything in the longer run, but at least I'm still in the contest.
Congratulations, Geoff, not only for making the first cut, but for your imaginative and pioneering resolve to seize the means of production and make self-publishing viable, effective, and victorious!
Thanks, Charlie. I was just reflecting that I have two advantages over Hemingway: First, I'm still alive, and second, I have not been corrupted by what he called the bitch goddess, Success. She does look attractive, though. I could be seduced, if she'd only look my way.
And what's happening with 'Gates of Eden'? It deserves a wide readership.
