I love my country -- the U.S.A. -- for its great potential, its guarantees of freedom to think, explore, question, invent and act. And yet, here are so many of my compatriots determined to restrict that freedom, to demand one and one only way of thinking and believing -- a lot of them in Texas.
We will never defeat the anti-thinkers totally, because the demand for ignorance is eternally reborn and encouraged by those who profit from it. But we must hold them at bay, or risk creating a Christian version of Iran's theocracy, or more likely, just dumbing down our population to the point where we won't be able to compete at all with places with smarter, more questioning kids.
