When my kids were about 7 and 4 (this is decades ago), they came to me in December and asked whether Santa Claus was real. They had been discussing it amongst themselves, having heard conflicting views at school. I thought for a few seconds, and then said, "he is real as long as you believe in him." A short pause later they began dancing around the house, joyfully proclaiming, "we believe, we believe, we believe!"
